What I Watched This Week
Deadpool & Logan
★★★★☆ (3.7/5)
Marvel movies have become a staple of modern pop culture, but finding ones that truly stand out is getting harder. However, Deadpool & Logan managed to rekindle that old Marvel magic, at least to some extent. This double feature brings together the snarky, fourth-wall-breaking antics of Deadpool with the gritty, heartfelt final chapter of Wolverine's story in Logan.
Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool: As expected, Ryan Reynolds delivered his usual energy and quick wit, bringing Deadpool to life with his trademark- if not repetative, humor. However, while Reynolds was great, it was Hugh Jackman who stole the entire show. Jackman's portrayal of an aging, battle-worn Wolverine was nothing short of brilliant, providing a perfect send-off to the X-Men saga under 20th Century Fox.
Minus Points: Despite the strong performances, the movie wasn't without its flaws. It felt like the film was trying to balance too much at once, and some of Deadpool's humor didn't land as well as it usually does. Nonetheless, it was a fitting end to the era, and for that, it deserves some praise.
The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady (Crunchy Roll)
★★★★☆ (4.5/5)
As someone who's seen countless isekai anime, it's always refreshing to find one that brings something new to the table. The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady is a delightful surprise, offering a unique spin on the genre.
Slow but Steady: The series is only a few episodes in, and while the pace is slow, it works in the show's favor. The careful world-building and character development add depth to the story, making it more than just another generic isekai.
Refreshing Elements: What sets this anime apart is its focus on the relationship between the two main characters, the princess and the genius young lady. Their dynamic is both intriguing and heartwarming, offering a nice change of pace from the usual male-dominated isekai stories.
RuPaul's Drag Race: Global Allstars (Paramount+)
★★★★☆ (4/5)
No week is complete without a dose of glitter and glamour, and RuPaul's Drag Race Global Allstars delivered just that. This show brings together some of the best drag queens from around the world to compete for the ultimate crown, and it’s as fabulous as it sounds.
Go Alyssa Edwards!: One of the standout queens this season is Alyssa Edwards. Her charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent are off the charts, and she's definitely someone to root for. Go America! It's exciting to see how the American queens stack up against the global talent. The competition is fierce, and the performances are nothing short of spectacular.
